MOD Usability trials
In November we trialled the Agiles AR application with the general public. The aim was to test usability of the application and to observe the potential for creativity and mobility.
Insights
Participants who contributed to the user study at MOD were familiar with AR and keen to trial new applications. They came with knowledge and comparative views of AR experiences and were happy to share their views. Data has yet to be sorted and analysed but in general the participants found the experience engaging and encouraged further development.
Restless Theatre Workshop
This workshop was designed to gather feedback from the artists on how well the application motivated novel movement.
Insights
The Restless dancers were enthusiastic, energetic and curious in their exploration of the potential of the AR tool as a choreographic device. Data has yet to be reviewed, however initial observations taught us that the disassemble and assemble tasks were too cognitive heavy and resulted in less movement that the drawing tasks or the dancing tasks augmented with verbal prompts to expand physical movement.
Next Steps
The Restless Dance Theatre workshop was insightful for the future direction of the development of new tasks. Direct feedback from the dancers who are interested in exploring more imaginative worlds and identification with character developmentĀ was extremely useful. Questions emerged around the best use of the capacities of the technology for motivating movementĀ – through theatrical/ filmic and games based scenography. This is development is interesting as it involves consideration of emotion integrated with curiosity and tasking to elicit movement.
